Fifty years ago, Frank Burke and Nick Lawton founded a new kind of investment firm. In the early 1960s, it was difficult for investors to find an investment advisor who would provide them with personalized investment management advice and guidance. Investors who could not meet the lofty minimums imposed by large financial institutions often had to fend for themselves. Frank and Nick, as smaller investors, quickly realized they could provide investment services to others who, like them, were just starting to build their portfolios. BLB&B’s first office was in Chestnut Hill and actually had a ticker tape machine in the front room. Frank and Nick started with just a few “friends and family” clients but, as word of their service offerings and skill spread, they quickly built a sizable business. In 1968, Curt Brewer joined them and they moved to a larger office in Flourtown. In the 1990s, BLB&B moved to our current office building in Spring House and today we serve families and institutions in 38 states and 5 countries. While our firm has expanded its professional staff, clientele, analytical tools, and technology our investment philosophy and commitment to personal service have remained consistent. During five decades of service to clients, we have stayed true to our original mission:
To provide individually managed portfolios and personalized advice tailored to the unique needs and goals of each client, using a disciplined and relatively conservative investment approach. As we celebrate our 50 years in business, we want to thank everyone along the way who has helped, supported, and believed in us. Thank you to our families, all of our clients, and all the many friends of our firm. Also, thank you to all the vendors and service providers who help us to deliver the best possible investment, portfolio management, and financial planning services to all our clients. We are truly privileged to have worked with each and every one of our clients over the last 50 years. We treasure the relationships we have built and are honored by the faith and trust placed in us.
